More Halloween Songs for the Ukulele

Just when you thought it was safe to pick up your ukulele! Here’s another round of Halloween themed songs, all charted up. I transposed Jonathan Coulton’s “re. Your Brains”  to make it easier for girls to sing, so I hope he doesn’t mind that I’m sharing it here.

Some of these songs and arrangements have been simplified a bit to make them easier to play in a “play-along” setting.

Howlin Hobbit performs Bozeman Ukulele Cabaret Theme

Pretty exciting day for me today! Seattle’s legendary ukulele busker, Howlin Hobbit posted this video of my song, “The Angel of the Ukulele Cabaret” on his facebook  page. I’m so flattered that he took the time to learn the words and perform it! I mean it’s cool enough that somebody’s playing my song, but to have someone this cool play it… more than makes my day. 🙂

Ukin at the Waterfest

There’s something about seeing a group of ukulele nuts playing outside at 47° F that kind of puts a smile on your face. Bozeman Ukulele Cabaret was asked to provide some live music for the Better Bozeman Project’s “Waterfest,” so the call for a ukulele flash mob went out and, in spite of cold temperatures and a dismal turnout, we had fun.

Fingers grew numb and fashion options were restricted to down coats and wool plaid, but we ripped through an hour or so of water-related songs, including “Take me to the River,” “Down by the Riverside,” “Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head” and “Water of Love.” Our enthusiastic audience of one dwindled when somebody handed her a ukulele and she became a former audience member. If only a bear or moose had wandered by, it would have been the perfect “Bozemandia” moment. Even so…

Yippee-yi-yo! Thanks, all who came out for our fall 2013 uke-in, “Cowboys, Werewolves, Aliens and Other Supernatural Things!” Special thanks to Ron Gompertz for welcoming us to Wild Joe’s once again, and to our sound angel Mark Grenier for lending (and tirelessly lugging) the additional mics, cords, and other equipment necessary to put on another ukulele open mic night.

October Play-alongs for Uke Beginners: Don’t forget that we are hosting beginner/intermediate ukulele play-alongs at Eckroth Music in Bozeman, Saturday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 throughout October (This is on an ad hoc basis — if nobody shows up by 11, it is cancelled.) Bring a uke if you have one, or you can demo one of Eckroth’s ukuleles, if you’d just like to just get your feet wet!

uke-flash-mobUke Flash Mob Sat. Oct 12: All are invited to join Mark and Marla at a special ukulele flash mob play-along at the Bozeman WaterFest at Bogert Park at 2pm on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. We’ll provide music sheets – just bring your uke and find us under the pavilion!
